Seven Presidents Cup Rookies

How the Presidents Cup Format Works

Four-ball

Each golfer plays their own ball. The lower score between the partners becomes the team’s score on that hole.

Foursomes

Partners play one ball and alternate shots. One player tees off on odd-numbered holes and the other on even-numbered holes.

Singles

All 12 players from each team play head-to-head matches on Sunday.

Each match is worth one point. A tied match awards half a point to each team. There are 30 points available, so 15½ points produce an outright winner; a 15-15 finish leaves the competition tied.

Major Storylines at Medinah

The International lead disappears Sunday
The Internationals led 10½–7½ after Saturday, but earned only 2½ points in singles as the United States completed the event’s largest final-day comeback.
Scheffler answers in singles
Scottie Scheffler defeated Nico Echavarria 2 and 1 and finished the week 3-1-0, tied for the best U.S. points total.
Adam Scott’s 12th appearance
No player at Medinah approaches Scott’s Presidents Cup experience.
Ryan Fox debuted at 39
The New Zealander arrived after a major-winning 2026 season.
American match-play strength
Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay each own at least 10 Presidents Cup match wins.
Ogilvy knows the architecture
The International captain is an OCM co-founder, linking him directly to the Course No. 3 redesign.

Medinah Course No. 3

The 2026 setup is listed at 7,564 yards and par 72. Originally designed by Tom Bendelow, Course No. 3 reopened in 2024 following an extensive OCM Golf redesign.

The transformation introduced larger greens, large-scale bunkering, wider strategic playing corridors, broader fescue areas, more open views and three new holes. The course hosting this Presidents Cup is substantially different from the Medinah remembered from the 2012 Ryder Cup.

Medinah has hosted three U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, the 2012 Ryder Cup and the 2019 BMW Championship. It now becomes a rare venue to host the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup.
