California Roots and a Record-Setting Cal Career

Morikawa grew up in Southern California and developed into one of the country’s leading amateurs at the University of California, Berkeley. He won five collegiate events, earned first-team All-America recognition multiple times and spent three weeks as the world’s top-ranked amateur.

He represented the United States in elite amateur team competition before completing his business degree and turning professional in 2019.

Seven PGA Tour Wins Before Age 30

Morikawa won the Barracuda Championship only weeks after turning professional in 2019. He then added the 2020 Workday Charity Open, 2020 PGA Championship, 2021 WGC-Workday Championship, 2021 Open Championship, 2023 ZOZO Championship and 2026 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Precision iron play has defined his professional career. His controlled fade and distance control made him a major champion in his first PGA Championship appearance and an Open champion in his tournament debut.

Major Championships at Harding Park and Royal St George’s

Morikawa won the 2020 PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. His final-round 64 included a memorable drive onto the 16th green that set up the decisive eagle.

In 2021, he won The Open at Royal St George’s by two strokes over Jordan Spieth. He closed with a bogey-free 66 and became the first player to win two different men’s majors in his tournament debut.

A Winning Return at Pebble Beach in 2026

Morikawa ended a PGA Tour winless stretch dating to October 2023 by winning the 2026 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He birdied the 72nd hole, finished at 22 under and defeated Min Woo Lee and Sepp Straka by one stroke.

The victory was his seventh official PGA Tour title and first Signature Event win. It also supplied the verified winning equipment snapshot documented on My9Iron’s separate Clubs & Specs page.
