Career Path

From South Africa to the PGA Tour

Bezuidenhout started playing golf at age four while growing up beside Delmas Golf Club. He developed through South African golf, spent four years with the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation and turned professional in 2015. He won the Big Easy Tour Order of Merit that year and was later named the Sunshine Tour Rookie of the Year.

2019

Andalucía Masters

Bezuidenhout captured his first European Tour title at demanding Real Club Valderrama, finishing six shots clear.

2020

Alfred Dunhill Championship

He won at Leopard Creek to begin a remarkable two-week stretch in South Africa.

2020

South African Open

A five-shot victory at Gary Player Country Club gave him consecutive European Tour titles.

On the PGA Tour, his best result is a runner-up finish at the 2024 American Express. His best major performance is a tie for 12th at the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont.

Resilience

A Career Shaped by Adversity

At age two, Bezuidenhout accidentally drank rat poison from a bottle. The poisoning affected his nervous system and contributed to a lasting stutter and anxiety. Golf became both an individual pursuit and an escape while he was growing up.

As an amateur, prescribed beta blockers produced a positive drug test at the 2014 Amateur Championship. His original two-year suspension was reduced to nine months after the circumstances were reviewed. Bezuidenhout stopped taking the medication, returned to competition and built an international professional career.

Editorial context: The medication and suspension are included as part of Bezuidenhout’s documented personal history, not as evidence of performance enhancement.
