Julia Lopez Ramirez at a Glance
She Started Playing Golf at Three
Lopez Ramirez grew up in Benahavís near Málaga, Spain. Neither of her parents played golf, but she began at age three and grew up admiring fellow Málaga golfer Azahara Muñoz.
Her development accelerated through Spain’s national system. She won a national juvenile event in 2018, helped Andalucía win a regional under-18 team title in 2019 and trained at the Escuela Nacional Blume during the 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons.
Representing Spain, she contributed to European Girls’ Team Championship gold in 2021, World University Team Championship gold in 2022 and European Ladies’ Team Championship gold in 2023. The Spanish Golf Federation later awarded her its Gold Medal for Merit in Golf.
Eight Wins and a Rewritten Record Book
At Mississippi State, Lopez Ramirez collected eight individual victories and became one of the most accomplished golfers in program history. She won the SEC individual championship in both 2023 and 2024 and earned SEC Golfer of the Year honors in both seasons.
She was only the fourth golfer in SEC history to win consecutive conference individual titles. Her résumé also included first-team All-America recognition from both the WGCA and Golfweek and SEC Freshman of the Year honors in 2022.

European Champion and Spain’s First Female World No. 1 Amateur
Lopez Ramirez produced one of her defining finishes at the 2023 European Ladies’ Amateur Championship at Tegelberga Golfklubb in Sweden. She birdied each of the final three holes and won by two shots over Carla Bernat, earning a place in the AIG Women’s Open.
On July 24, 2024, she reached No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. The Spanish Golf Federation identified her as the first Spanish woman to reach the top spot since the women’s ranking began in 2009—a milestone neither Carlota Ciganda nor Azahara Muñoz had reached during their amateur careers.

From Q-Series to One of the LPGA’s Longest Hitters
Mississippi State announced on November 14, 2024, that Lopez Ramirez was turning professional to enter the final stage of LPGA Q-Series. She finished T10 and secured LPGA Tour status for 2025.
Distance quickly separated her from the field. She led the LPGA in average driving distance in 2025 at 285.42 yards. The power continued in 2026: as of August 13, the LPGA listed her at 288.55 yards, second on Tour, while her +0.97 Strokes Gained: Off the Tee ranked fifth.
Those figures are dated snapshots rather than permanent career totals, but they show why Lopez Ramirez entered the Solheim Cup conversation so quickly.

Julia Lopez Ramirez Earned a 2026 Solheim Cup Captain’s Pick
European captain Anna Nordqvist selected Lopez Ramirez on August 3, 2026, alongside fellow captain’s picks Leona Maguire, Nastasia Nadaud and Mimi Rhodes. The selection positioned Lopez Ramirez to make her Solheim Cup debut at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands from September 11–13.
A Golf Channel feature added personality to the power story: Lopez Ramirez said she planned to serve as Team Europe’s resident DJ as well as one of its long hitters. It is a role she described—not an invented nickname—but it offers a glimpse of what she could bring to the team room.
