Raised Around the Game at Sleepy Hollow

Young grew up in Scarborough, New York, with golf built into family life. His father, David Young, is a longtime PGA professional at Sleepy Hollow Country Club, while his mother, Barbara, also played professionally.

That background helped Young develop the speed and powerful delivery that later made him one of the PGA Tour’s most recognizable drivers of the ball.

Wake Forest and the Professional Climb

Young played college golf at Wake Forest before turning professional in 2019. He advanced through the developmental tours and won twice on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2021.

His first full PGA Tour season produced five runner-up finishes, including a second-place finish at The Open, and he was voted the 2022 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year.

From Seven Runner-Up Finishes to Three PGA Tour Victories

Young accumulated seven PGA Tour runner-up finishes before finally breaking through at the 2025 Wyndham Championship. He finished at 22 under, won by six strokes and became the 1,000th different winner in PGA Tour history.

He followed that breakthrough with the biggest victory of his career at the 2026 Players Championship, closing with a 68 and defeating Matt Fitzpatrick by one stroke. Seven weeks later, he won the Cadillac Championship at Doral by six over Scottie Scheffler for his third Tour title.

Twice One Shot From The Open Championship

Young finished one stroke behind Cameron Smith at St Andrews in the 2022 Open Championship. Four years later at Royal Birkdale, he again finished runner-up by one, this time after Ryan Fox birdied the 72nd hole.

Those results make Young a two-time Open runner-up, but he has not won a major championship. The distinction is stated directly because his rapid rise and multiple close calls can make career summaries easy to overstate.

Cameron Young’s Presidents Cup Record

Young made his Presidents Cup debut at Quail Hollow in 2022 and finished with a 1-2-1 record. His lone victory came in Friday foursomes alongside Kevin Kisner.

He did not play in the 2024 event, but his three-win surge carried him to second in the 2026 U.S. points standings. He qualified automatically for Brandt Snedeker’s team and will make his second appearance at Medinah.
