Rose Zhang’s Record-Setting Amateur Career
Zhang began playing golf at age nine and soon developed into an elite junior. She won the 2020 U.S. Women’s Amateur in a 38-hole final against Gabriela Ruffels and added the U.S. Girls’ Junior title in 2021.
Her consistency at the highest amateur level produced a record-setting tenure at No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. She received the Mark H. McCormack Medal as the world’s leading women’s amateur three consecutive times from 2020 through 2022.
Zhang also earned low-amateur recognition in major-championship golf, including at the 2020 ANA Inspiration and the 2022 AIG Women’s Open. That résumé made her transition to Stanford one of the most closely watched college-golf arrivals in years.
Rose Zhang’s Stanford Career
Zhang won the NCAA Division I individual championship in both 2022 and 2023, becoming the first woman to capture the title twice. She also helped Stanford win the 2022 NCAA team championship.
Across only 20 collegiate starts, Zhang won 12 times. That established a Stanford golf record, surpassing the 11 collegiate victories recorded by Tiger Woods.
Her final college season included another defining victory. Zhang won the 2023 Augusta National Women’s Amateur on the second playoff hole against Jenny Bae after protecting a large advantage through a difficult final round.
A Stanford Career Without an Inflated Claim
Zhang attended and competed for Stanford before turning professional in May 2023. This profile does not claim that she completed a degree because current degree-completion evidence was not strong enough for inclusion.
Rose Zhang returns to Augusta National and reflects on her amateur victory and transition to professional golf.
Winning Her First Professional LPGA Start
Zhang announced that she was turning professional in May 2023. At the Mizuho Americas Open less than two weeks later, she defeated Jennifer Kupcho on the second playoff hole to win her first start as a professional.
The victory made Zhang the first player since Beverly Hanson in 1951 to win an LPGA Tour event in her professional debut. It was a level of immediate success rarely seen, even from an amateur with her résumé.
Zhang collected her second LPGA title at the 2024 Cognizant Founders Cup. She finished at 24 under and defeated Madelene Sagström by two strokes. The victory also stopped Nelly Korda from extending her record-tying streak of five consecutive LPGA wins.
Through September 11, 2026, Zhang had two LPGA victories and had not won a major championship. Her professional results have been less dominant than her amateur career, but her best performances—including her Solheim Cup record—show the level she can reach.
In this September 2026 Solheim Cup press conference, Rose Zhang discusses her return to Team USA and the skydiving trip that became part of her preparation for the week.
Rose Zhang’s Solheim Cup Record
Zhang made her Solheim Cup debut in 2023 and earned half a point from three matches. One year later, she produced one of Team USA’s defining performances.
At the 2024 Solheim Cup in Virginia, Zhang went 4–0–0. Her victories included a 6-and-4 singles win over Carlota Ciganda, and she finished as the only American to earn four full points as the United States reclaimed the Cup.
Zhang entered the 2026 Solheim Cup with a 4–2–1 career record and 4.5 points. Captain Angela Stanford selected her as one of Team USA’s three captain’s picks, giving Zhang her third appearance.
These career figures are explicitly her record entering the 2026 competition. The biography contains no live scores, active match state or result-dependent language.
