Chance Taylor Bio
How a 40-time junior winner from Gate City became a Tennessee Tech standout, East Tennessee Amateur champion, Team Grant golfer and the inaugural Bryson’s Backyard Games champion.
Quick answer: Chancellor Joseph “Chance” Taylor is a golfer and content creator from Gate City, Virginia. He won 40 junior events, played Division I golf at Tennessee Tech, earned OVC Golfer of the Week honors and won the East Tennessee Amateur before building Chance Taylor Golf. Grant Horvat selected him for Team Grant in the inaugural Your Golf Tour draft.
Chance Taylor at a Glance
Forty junior wins before college
Taylor lettered four years at Gate City High School in southwest Virginia. Tennessee Tech credited him with District Player of the Year recognition in all four seasons, two All-Region selections, a Region Player of the Year award and two Virginia All-State selections.
His junior résumé included 40 tournament victories, an NJGT National Championship and a 61 in a high-school regional tournament. He also won the boys’ division of the 2018 Tri-Cities PGA Junior Amateur at The Virginian shortly before beginning college.
Five seasons at Tennessee Tech
Taylor’s Tennessee Tech career stretched from 2018–19 through 2022–23, including the COVID-affected period that extended many college-athlete eligibility timelines.
His clearest conference honor came on March 2, 2022, when he was named Ohio Valley Conference Male Golfer of the Week. Taylor finished tied for 15th among 83 players at the Orlando Invitational with rounds of 75, 70 and 76 for a five-over 221. At the time, his 72.5 scoring average ranked sixth in the OVC.
Accuracy note: An OVC release printed a conflicting final-round score, but the official tournament results confirm 75-70-76 and a 221 total.
Winning the East Tennessee Amateur
Taylor won the 27th William B. Greene Jr. East Tennessee Amateur at Elizabethton Golf Course with three consecutive rounds of 70. His six-under 210 produced a one-stroke victory.
He began the final round two shots behind Clint Lowe, then birdied the final two holes to claim the title. It remains one of the strongest results in Taylor’s documented competitive résumé.

From college golfer to personality-led creator
After Tennessee Tech, Taylor moved into professional and creator golf, building an audience through short-form clips, competitive matches, trick shots and challenges. His content combines high-level golf with hunting, fishing and the Appalachian personality of his southwest Virginia roots.
One early breakout clip showed Taylor hitting a flop shot over Haley, who later became his wife. The clip helped establish the fearless, informal style that became central to Chance Taylor Golf, although the available evidence does not establish that one video alone launched his career.
Taylor has also appeared with PGA Tour winner Sam Burns and other prominent creator golfers, expanding an audience built around legitimate playing ability without sanding away his regional identity.

The match with PGA Tour winner Sam Burns shows Taylor’s game in a competitive creator format rather than through short-form trick shots alone.
The Q, People’s League and Backyard Games
Taylor’s creator-competition résumé includes The Q and appearances for Birdie Fever in People’s League. Third-party creator-golf tracking has calculated his level deep into plus-handicap territory, but that estimate should never be presented as an official USGA Handicap Index.
In October 2026, Taylor survived the 10-player Backyard Games field, defeated Brad Dalke for the right to face Bryson DeChambeau, then won a closest-to-the-pin playoff against Bryson to claim the inaugural title and $100,000 prize.
Chance Taylor on Your Golf Tour
Grant Horvat used the final permanent-roster selection in the inaugural YGT draft on Taylor, adding him to Team Grant with Luke Kwon and Sam Heung Min.
At Pursell Farms, Taylor and Sam shot a six-under 30 in the front-nine scramble. When Grant activated wildcard Michael Block, Taylor remained in the lineup and partnered with Block in alternate shot. Their three-under 33 was Team Grant’s better back-nine score.
Team Grant finished third at 15 under, one stroke behind Team Brad and outside the final. Taylor contributed to both halves of the team score, making the “last pick” label a poor summary of his first-event performance.

Chance Taylor and Callaway Golf
Taylor has been identified publicly as a Callaway Golf ambassador. That relationship is appropriate for the biography, but individual club models, lofts and shafts should be tied to a dated bag feature rather than written as permanent present-tense specifications.
A separate Chance Taylor WITB page would be worthwhile after a complete video transcription and equipment audit. My9Iron will not convert a brand relationship into an assumed current bag.
