Who Is Bernhard Langer?

Bernhard Langer is a German professional golfer widely regarded as one of the greatest players of his generation — and, by an increasingly wide margin, the most successful senior golfer ever to play the game. He turned professional in 1972 and rose to become one of the sport’s dominant figures through the 1980s, winning the Masters in both 1985 and 1993 and reaching World No. 1 in 1986.

Langer represented Europe in ten Ryder Cups as a player between 1981 and 2002, missing only the 1999 edition, and later captained the winning European team at the 2004 matches at Oakland Hills. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2002.

Since joining PGA Tour Champions in 2007, Langer has built a record that dwarfs the rest of the senior circuit’s history — winning at least once in nearly every season he’s played, breaking Hale Irwin’s career wins record, and repeatedly setting the mark for oldest winner in tour history well into his sixties. He’s also swept the tour’s major awards — money leader, player of the year, and scoring average — more times than any other player.
