Nico Echavarria Bio: PGA Tour Wins and Presidents Cup
The Colombian three-time PGA Tour winner makes his Presidents Cup debut at Medinah after adding the 2026 Cognizant Classic to his global résumé.
Nico Echavarria Quick Facts
A Golf Family and Four Years With the Razorbacks
Echavarria was born in Medellín to Emilio and Ana Maria Echavarria. Golf already ran through the family: his older brother Andrés became a professional golfer and won twice on PGA Tour Latinoamérica, while his brother Miguel played college golf at Michigan.
Nico attended the University of Arkansas from 2013 through 2017, competing for the Razorbacks while studying international relations. He also represented Colombia at the 2016 Eisenhower Trophy before turning professional in February 2017.
From Latin America to the PGA Tour
Echavarria built his career through the developmental tours rather than receiving immediate PGA Tour status. He won twice during the 2018 PGA Tour Latinoamérica season and finished second on the Order of Merit, earning a move to the Korn Ferry Tour.
He later secured PGA Tour membership through the 2022 Korn Ferry Tour Finals. His first PGA Tour victory followed during his rookie season at the 2023 Puerto Rico Open.
Nico Echavarria’s PGA Tour Wins
2023 Puerto Rico Open
Echavarria earned his first PGA Tour title in only the 11th event of his rookie season, finishing 21-under and defeating Akshay Bhatia by two strokes.
2024 ZOZO Championship
His second victory came in Japan, expanding his résumé beyond the opposite-field breakthrough in Puerto Rico.
2026 Cognizant Classic
A final-round 66 and birdies on two of the last three holes carried him to 17-under and a two-stroke victory for his third title.
A Masters-week highlight
Echavarria also won the 2025 Masters Par-3 Contest, defeating J.J. Spaun in a playoff after both completed regulation at five-under 22.
Nico Echavarria’s Presidents Cup Debut
International Team captain Geoff Ogilvy selected Echavarria as one of six captain’s picks for the 2026 Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club. It will be the Colombian’s first appearance in the event.
Echavarria is one of three International Team rookies chosen by Ogilvy, joining Nick Taylor and Ryo Hisatsune. His three PGA Tour victories and ability to win outside the continental United States give the International side an experienced tournament closer despite his rookie status in team competition.
Nico Echavarria’s 2026 Equipment
My9Iron’s separate equipment page documents the exact 14-club setup from his Cognizant Classic victory and the later 15-club inventory photographed in August. The newer long clubs are treated as options rather than an invented competition lineup.
