Maja Stark’s Amateur Golf Career
Stark grew up in Abbekås in southern Sweden and joined the Swedish national team in 2016. She helped Sweden win the 2017 European Girls’ Team Championship and was part of European Ladies’ Team Championship-winning sides in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
Her international amateur experience also included the 2017 Junior Solheim Cup and the victorious International team at the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup. Stark climbed as high as No. 6 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
She showed that her game already traveled to major-championship setups. Stark tied for 13th as an amateur at the 2020 U.S. Women’s Open and followed that with a tie for 16th in 2021.
Maja Stark at Oklahoma State
Stark began playing for Oklahoma State during the 2019–20 season and won the Hurricane Invitational in only her second collegiate start. Her college career was shortened by the disrupted 2020 season, but her production was unmistakable.
During the 2020–21 season, Stark won twice, finished No. 4 in the Golfstat ranking and posted a 49–2 head-to-head record against top-100 opponents. Her 70.48 scoring average broke Oklahoma State’s previous single-season record of 71.14.
She was named Big 12 Player of the Year and earned WGCA first-team All-America recognition before leaving college golf to begin her professional career in August 2021.

From Turning Professional to the LPGA Tour
Stark turned professional in August 2021 and won the PGA Championship by Trelleborgs Kommun on the LET Access Series in her second professional start. She then won the Creekhouse Ladies Open and Estrella Damm Ladies Open, giving her two Ladies European Tour victories within her first three LET starts.
Her momentum continued in 2022 with victories at the Women’s NSW Open and Amundi German Masters. At the ISPS Handa World Invitational, Stark closed with a 63 to finish 20 under par and win by five strokes over Allisen Corpuz.
Because the event was co-sanctioned by the LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour, the victory counted on both tours and gave Stark LPGA membership. She added her sixth LET title at the 2023 Lalla Meryem Cup.
In 2024, Stark finished alone in second behind Nelly Korda at the Chevron Championship. That remained her best major result until her breakthrough at Erin Hills the following year.
How Maja Stark Won Her First Major
Stark entered the final round of the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open at Erin Hills with a one-shot lead. She stayed composed as Korda moved within one shot, then used birdies at the 11th and 14th holes to create the separation she needed.
An even-par final-round 72 gave Stark a 7-under total of 281 and a two-stroke victory over Korda and Rio Takeda. The win was her first professional victory in the United States and came with a $2.4 million winner’s share.
Stark became the third Swedish woman to win the U.S. Women’s Open, joining Liselotte Neumann and Annika Sörenstam, and the first Swedish champion of the event since Sörenstam in 2006.

Maja Stark’s Solheim Cup Record
Stark made her Solheim Cup debut for Europe in 2023. She finished the week 2–1–1, including a Saturday foursomes victory alongside fellow Swede Linn Grant and a 2-and-1 singles win over reigning U.S. Women’s Open champion Allisen Corpuz.
She returned in 2024 and went 1–2–1. Across those first two appearances, Stark played eight matches, compiled a 3–3–2 record and earned four points.
Stark qualified automatically for the 2026 Solheim Cup through the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings pathway, making it her third appearance for Team Europe.
